1908The first diamond is discovered near Lüderitz by Zachariah Lewala, sparking a major diamond rush.
1936Oranjemund is officially established to support diamond operations, run by CDM.
2004The Oranjemund Town Management Company (OTM) is formed.
2011The Namibian Government proclaims Oranjemund as an official town.
2012The Oranjemund Town Council (OTC) is established and holds its first local elections.
2013 – 2016A transformation team (OTC & Namdeb) leads the town's shift from private to public; Oranjemund 2030 Vision is launched.
2017Town officially opens to the public — no more entry permits required.
2018OTC and Namdeb sign a Memorandum of Agreement to guide the transformation process.
2018Oranjemund crowned the Namibia Small Town of the Year.
2019 – 2022Residential property sales commenced, allowing public ownership.
2020OTC and OMDis sign MoU to sustainably transform and diversify the local economy beyond diamond mining.
2024The Bon Jesus Shipwreck Room is inaugurated at the Oranjemund Jasper House Museum, celebrating maritime heritage and exploration.
