Dear Residents,
Christmas time is here again! Christmas is a time to reflect and celebrate the birth of our Lord, Jesus Christ, a special time to be with family and friends. A time to review our performance, values, attitude and challenges and plan for a better tomorrow.
As a local authority, we have encountered several challenges this year, and we are happy to say that a good number of these challenges were surmounted, and we are indeed optimistic for a brighter future ahead of us.
Therefore, I wish to thank the Almighty God for seeing us through the year 2022 successfully.
Our community, stakeholders and staff have played a vital role in Council’s success. Thank you for all your zeal and willingness to go an extra mile, and for engaging in Council activities. Special thanks to everyone that supported the Mayoral Relief Fund events, without your support the event would not have been a success. On the other hand, Council sincerely apologise for the postponement of the Diamond Festival, please be assured that next year 2023 we will be hosting a bigger and better edition of the festival.
I would like to thank my fellow Honourable Councillors for their tireless efforts and hard work. Let’s continue to stand firm and foster teamwork, as we need to ensure that council resolutions taken are at the best interest of our town’s development plans, for the benefit of our community. Therefore, let’s all continue to cement our relations and build on our journey together to transform Oranjemund into a Smart sustainable City.
As Council, we will continue with our quest to bring and deliver excellent municipal services to our community. I call upon the community to continue to pay their municipal account on time during the festive season to avoid any disconnection of services, for any assistance kindly contact our finance department.
Our doors remain open for those with any suggestions to make our Council work better, because together we can achieve more.
In addressing key strategic Development issues, I am pleased to announce that Council is in its final stages to complete its new five year Strategic and Branding Plan with the aim to reflect on our achievements, challenges and what we need to do to accomplish these objectives within the next five years that includes both medium to long-term sustainability issues of the town. Next year, we will further present the final strategic plan to the community, we appreciate all valuable contributions made towards the formulation process.
During the festive season, there’s always excitement as everyone is looking forward to enjoying themselves with friends and families. Let’s protect the safety and well-being of our children and young people. Everyone has a role to play. So as parents, let’s keep an eye on our children and safeguard them from any dangers – experimenting with alcohol, drugs and being at places not meant for them.
Furthermore, I would like to remind and caution all owners of liquor outlets (bars/nightclubs) to refrain from selling alcohol beverages and allowing children under the age of 18 into these outlets. For those that are travelling, please take extra care on the road and adhere to road traffic rules – don’t drink and drive and always buckle up. Let’s all be vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the police.
On behalf of Council, Management and staff of Oranjemund Town Council, we wish you all a blessed Christmas and a Prosperous New Year 2023 filled with success, happiness and peace. May God bless you and your families during this festive season.
Kind regards,
HW, CLLR ELIAS KASEMBA
MAYOR OF ORANJEMUND
